Readers’ Fiesta 2025 – A Celebration of National Reading Day Organised by the Department of English, MES Asmabi College, P. Vemballur The Department of English, MES Asmabi College, observed National Reading Day with a vibrant and intellectually engaging programme titled Readers’ Fiesta on June 19, 2025. The event aimed to promote the habit of reading among students and to honour the legacy of P.N. Panicker, the father of the library movement in Kerala. The programme commenced with a prayer by Ms. Arya, student of II BA English, followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Smt. Jameelathu K A, Assistant Professor of English. Dr. Reena Mohamed P M, Principal and Head of the Department of English, delivered the Principal’s Address, highlighting the significance of reading in academic and personal growth. The highlight of the day was the Inaugural Address by Shri. Siddharthan Punnakkal, renowned writer and retired Higher Secondary School Principal from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. His inspiring words encouraged students to embrace reading as a lifelong companion and source of empowerment. The Felicitation Session was led by Dr. Sanand Sadanandakumar, Head of the Department of Political Science and PTA Secretary, and Smt. Raheesha, Assistant Professor of History. They appreciated the efforts of the department in fostering a culture of reading. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Smt. Sinsy Siddiq, Assistant Professor of English, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, faculty members, and students for their active participation. As part of the celebration, the students of the English Department staged dramatic recreations of famous literary scenes under the title “Thou Art On Stage”, which captivated the audience and added a creative flair to the event. The programme successfully instilled a renewed appreciation for reading and literature among students, making the observance of National Reading Day both memorable and meaningful.
