On February 4, 2025, the Department of Botany, in association with the Bhoomithrasena Club, Green Initiatives, and Science Forum of MES Asmabi College, organized a Wetland Day celebration at ‘Pullu Paadam,’ a significant wetland ecosystem. Forty students and five faculty members participated in the event, which featured an educational visit and an awareness session on wetland conservation. During the visit, students explored the biodiversity of the wetland and learned about its ecological functions, including water filtration, groundwater recharge, and habitat support for diverse flora and fauna. Dr. K. H. Amitha Bachan, Assistant Professor and Environmentalist, delivered an insightful talk on conservation strategies, emphasizing community participation, sustainable land-use practices, and policy interventions. He also addressed threats such as encroachment, pollution, and climate change impacts on wetland ecosystems. The celebration successfully enhanced students’ awareness and motivated them to take proactive measures in wetland conservation, reinforcing the need for collective responsibility in preserving these critical ecosystems. Through these initiatives, MES Asmabi College continues to foster environmental consciousness among students, equipping them with knowledge and practical skills to contribute to sustainability and biodiversity conservation.
