The "Plant 4 Mother" Campaign Seminar, held on September 2, 2024, was a significant initiative aimed at fostering environmental consciousness and promoting sustainable practices within the community. Organized by the Women Development Cell (WDC) in association with Green Initiative, the event provided a platform to educate students and faculty about the crucial role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and mitigating environmental challenges. By emphasizing afforestation as an accessible and impactful green initiative, the seminar aligned with broader sustainability goals such as carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. Encouraging both individual and collective responsibility, the session contributed to the ongoing dialogue on ecological restoration and green living. The seminar featured Ms. Shemi C B, Assistant Professor (Green initiative -Nodal Officer of MES Asmabi College, P.Vemballur) from the Department of Botany, as the resource person. Her insightful presentation inspired participants to recognize their role in nurturing nature through simple yet effective actions. She highlighted the significance of trees in ecosystem health, explaining how they absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, regulate temperatures, and provide habitats for diverse flora and fauna. The discussion also addressed the environmental impact of deforestation, shedding light on issues such as global warming, soil degradation, water scarcity, and loss of wildlife habitats. Mrs. Shemi further emphasized the long-term benefits of tree planting, including air purification, erosion prevention, and improved mental well-being through green spaces. Practical guidance was provided on how individuals can engage in conservation efforts, from participating in tree-planting drives to advocating for eco-friendly policies and adopting sustainable habits in daily life. The seminar had a profound impact on attendees, sparking enthusiasm for environmental stewardship. Students and faculty actively participated in discussions, reflecting a collective commitment to fostering greenery. Several attendees even pledged to plant trees in their local communities, demonstrating the event's immediate influence in promoting sustainable actions. By inspiring individuals to take responsibility for their ecological footprint, the "Plant 4 Mother" seminar successfully reinforced the ethos of green initiatives. The event not only educated but also empowered participants to make a tangible difference in conservation efforts. Moving forward, such initiatives will continue to play a crucial role in inspiring sustainable practices and strengthening the global fight against environmental degradation.
