The Research Department of Botany at MES Asmabi College, P. Vemballur, organized an inspiring orientation program for the newly admitted I UG and I PG Botany students on 08/11/2024. The program began with a prayer led by Safin Saji, a student of II B.Sc Botany. Dr. Girija T.P, Head of the department welcomed the gathering. The programme was presided over by Dr. Reena Mohamed PM, Principal in Charge. Dr. Jisha KC Department faculty, introduced the guest. The program aimed to introduce students to the fascinating world of Botany, foster enthusiasm for innovation, and emphasize the importance of environmental stewardship. The theme of the orientation, "Planting Dreams for a Greener Tomorrow: Unlocking Potential and Innovation in Botany," set the tone for an engaging and thought-provoking session. The resource person for the event was Dr. A.K. Abdul Salam, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Sir Syed College, Thalipparamba. Dr. Abdul Salam, a distinguished academician and researcher, captivated the audience with his expertise and inspiring words. In his keynote address, Dr. Abdul Salam highlighted the importance of Botany in addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and biodiversity conservation. He emphasized the need for innovation in Botany and encouraged students to pursue research-driven careers while nurturing a passion for sustainable development, and also shared insights into various opportunities available in the field of Botany, including interdisciplinary research, biotechnology, and environmental conservation initiatives. His speech was peppered with anecdotes and examples, illustrating the transformative power of Botany in building a sustainable future. The orientation program was well-received by the students and faculty members alike. It provided a platform for students to understand the scope and significance of their chosen field and motivated them to contribute meaningfully to society. Smt. Ummu Habeeba K faculty of the Research Department of Botany, expressed gratitude to Dr. Abdul Salam for his invaluable insights and to the participants for their enthusiastic response. The program ended with a vote of thanks, leaving the students inspired and ready to embark on their academic journey in Botany with renewed zeal and purpose.
