The Wetland Day celebration was held on 4th February 2025 to raise awareness about the importance of wetland ecosystems and the need for their conservation.  The programme was conducted by Department of Botany in association with Bhoomitrasena club, Green initiatives and Science Forum of MES Asmabi College, P. Vemballur.  The event featured a visit to 'Pullu Paadam,' a significant wetland area, followed by an insightful talk by Dr. K.H. Amitha Bachan on conservation strategies and the challenges faced in preserving wetlands. The programme began with an educational visit to 'Pullu Paadam,' where students explored the rich biodiversity of the wetland and understood its ecological significance. Teachers highlighted the role of wetlands in maintaining groundwater levels, supporting diverse flora and fauna, and acting as natural water filters. Following the visit, Dr. K.H. Amitha Bachan, Assistant Professor and Environmentalist, MES Asmabi College delivered an informative session on wetland conservation. He discussed various conservation strategies, including community participation, sustainable land-use practices, and policy-level interventions. Additionally, he addressed key challenges such as encroachment, pollution, and climate change impacts that threaten wetland ecosystems. The Wetland Day celebration successfully enhanced awareness and encouraged proactive measures for wetland protection.
