As part of an academic initiative to enhance students’ understanding of filmmaking, a group of 20 students, accompanied by three faculty members, visited Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The visit was designed to provide hands-on exposure to various aspects of film production, including green screen shooting, foley sound, set creation, motion capturing, and an exploration of the Baahubali set. This experience allowed students to observe professional workflows and gain insight into the technical intricacies of film production. One of the key learning areas was the exploration of production techniques, particularly the use of green screen technology. Students had the opportunity to witness a live green screen shoot and understand how lighting, camera placement, and post production compositing play a crucial role in visual effects. The demonstration highlighted the importance of chroma keying in blending real and digital elements seamlessly, a technique widely used in modern filmmaking. The visit also introduced students to the world of foley sound, an essential component of sound design. Industry professionals demonstrated how various sound effects are created using everyday objects to enhance realism in films. From footsteps to rustling fabric, the session emphasized how these subtle but significant details contribute to a film’s overall impact. The exploration of motion capture technology provided students with an understanding of its role in modern filmmaking. They witnessed the use of motion-tracking suits and sensor-based systems that capture human movements for integration into digital characters.
