The debate successfully fostered a rich discussion on the government’s handling of landslide risks in Wayanad. The event provided a platform for MA students to critically access and analyzes both the short-term and long-term measures taken by the government in addressing natural disasters. Both teams presented well-researched arguments, showcasing a deep understanding of the challenges posed by landslides and the complexities of disaster management. The affirmative team argued that the government’s actions, such as quick disaster relief, improved infrastructure, and early warning systems, were effective in reducing the impact of landslides. On the other hand, the negative team criticized the government for not implementing stricter land-use policies, failing to prevent construction in high-risk zones, and neglecting to address the root causes of the landslides. The coordinators, Saidalavi and Dr. Jasna NM, ensured the smooth execution of the event, encouraging respectful discourse and providing a well-structured platform for both teams to present their ideas
