The "Hands-on Training Workshop on Identification and Assessment of Developmental Disabilities" was held on 08 January 2025 at the Old Seminar Hall, MES Asmabi College. The workshop aimed to provide participants with practical knowledge and skills in identifying and assessing developmental disabilities, a crucial area in the field of psychology. The event began with a warm welcome speech by Mr. Lathif Penath, Head of the Department of Psychology, who emphasized the importance of understanding developmental disabilities and the need for specialized assessment tools. He highlighted the role of such workshops in enhancing the expertise of students and professionals in the field.The presidential address was delivered by Dr. K.P. Sumedhan, who underscored the significance of early identification and assessment in improving the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. Dr. Sumedhan stressed the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and the critical role of mental health professionals in addressing these issues. The resource person for the workshop, Dr. Raheemudheen P.K., Clinical Psychologist at the Government Mental Health Centre, Thrissur, led the session. Dr. Raheemudheen provided an in-depth presentation on various methods and tools used for the identification and assessment of developmental disabilities, offering real-life case studies and practical demonstrations. He encouraged participants to engage in hands-on activities to familiarize themselves with different assessment techniques and instruments, which helped strengthen their understanding of the topic. The workshop provided valuable insights and practical training for the participants, enhancing their skills in identifying and assessing developmental disabilities. It also fostered a collaborative learning environment, where participants could discuss challenges, share experiences, and learn from experts in the field.
