On 10th September, as part of Day Observation of World Suicide Prevention Day,  Mental Health Club and Department of Psychology, MES Asmabi College, P.Vemballur, organized a Gatekeeper Training program titled "Changing the Narrative on Suicide" for NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and Red Cross volunteers. The event, held at the College Auditorium from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, was inaugurated with a presidential address by Dr. K. P. Sumedhan, Director of Self-Financing Departments. The session was led by Mr. Lathif Penath, a Student Counsellor and HOD, who delivered a compelling presentation on identifying suicide warning signs, offering empathetic support, and connecting individuals to professional help. Through interactive activities, role-plays, and a vibrant Q&A session, participants gained practical tools and insights to act as proactive gatekeepers in their communities. The training effectively broke stigmas around mental health and empowered attendees to contribute to suicide prevention efforts, marking a significant step in fostering a culture of empathy and support.
