World Environment Day 2023 was observed with great enthusiasm and commitment at our college auditorium on the 5th of June, 2023. The event also marked the inauguration of the Biodiversity Club, which aims to promote environmental awareness and conservation efforts among students and staff. Awareness Talk: "Plastic Pollution and Management" The highlight of the event was the insightful presentation by Prof. Dr. S. Bijoy Nandan. In his talk, Dr. Nandan elaborated on the following key points: Necessities of Plastic: He discussed the widespread use of plastic in various aspects of daily life, explaining its advantages and the reasons for its pervasive presence. Impact on Ecosystem and Human Health: Dr. Nandan highlighted the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on ecosystems, including marine life and terrestrial habitats. He also discussed the adverse health impacts on humans, resulting from exposure to plastic pollutants. Measures to Reduce Plastic Usage: The presentation included practical steps and strategies to minimize plastic use in everyday life. Dr. Nandan advocated for a shift towards sustainable alternatives and biodegradable solutions to mitigate the harmful effects of plastic. Biodegradable Remedies: Emphasizing the need for innovation, Dr. Nandan spoke about the development and adoption of biodegradable materials as substitutes for conventional plastics.
