Ecological Restoration of Sacred Groves and Ponds: Inauguration
Inauguration for the ecological restoration of ten sacred groves and five ponds at Sree Narayanapuram Grama Panchayath through community involvement. The project was fund supported by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board. The collaboration of MGNREGA, Western Ghats Hornbill Foundation and MES Asmabi College organized the program together. Shri. M.S. Mohanan inaugurated the program in the auspicious presence of panchayat members and local people. The threatened plant species representing the low-elevation forest like Hope ponga, Diospyros crumenata and Prioria pinnata were planted in the degraded sacred grove as an initial step towards restoration.
