Overview
Established in 1968, the Department of Chemistry has been an integral part of MES Asmabi College since its inception. The department initially offered Chemistry as a subject in the Pre-Degree programme, under the leadership of Prof. P. A. Ameer Ali, the Founder Professor and Head of the Department, who served from 1968 to 2000. In 1979, Chemistry was introduced at the undergraduate level as a complementary subject for B.Sc. Botany, followed by its inclusion in the B.Sc. Physics programme in 2009.
Over the decades, the department has upheld its commitment to quality education by fostering scientific curiosity, analytical thinking and a deeper understanding of chemical principles and their applications. The contributions of its faculty members have played an important role in nurturing students’ academic interests and strengthening their appreciation of Chemistry as a fundamental and interdisciplinary science.
The department is equipped with an undergraduate laboratory featuring essential facilities. These facilities provide students with opportunities to develop experimental skills, understand chemical concepts through hands-on activities and appreciate the importance of laboratory safety and scientific accuracy.
Building on its rich academic heritage, the Department of Chemistry continues to inspire students to explore the relevance of Chemistry in everyday life, connect chemical knowledge with other disciplines and develop the skills and perspectives necessary for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship.
